This isn’t a new concept but recently it became more evident for myself. I decided about two weeks ago that I was going to be more proactive in creating a healthier life-style. I need to say good-bye to some excess weight that I have gained over the past 19 months and I need to stop mindless snacking after dinner. 2 simple needs, 1 huge mind-shift! What appears to be a small change (mindless snacking) is one of the hardest changes.
I enjoy evening TV. Sitting in my favourite chair; chips in a bowl; wine in a glass and one of my recorded TV shows. This was how I decompressed at the end of another long boring stuck at home day in Covid lock-down. Evenings turned into weeks and months turned into year… well you get it. 50 pounds later and now I sit here utterly disappointed in myself for losing track of who I am and drowning my boredom in snacks and TV.
I am ending week 2 and the evening snacking is evolving from bowls of chips, cookies, chocolate and pizza into another glass of water. My business coach encouraged me to exchange my craving for a snack with a glass of fresh water. So last night I did just that. It was the first night in a very long long time that I have not snacked after dinner. I consider this a huge win for me. And proof that when you let go of something, you make room for something else. Now to duplicate this behaviour tonight, tomorrow and for the following 21 days.
I am going to let go of evening snacks and I am going to make room for fresh water. I am going to let go of idle mindless TV and make room for activities like walks, tending to my gardens, cleaning a closet or something else productive and enjoyable (yes, I do enjoy cleaning and organizing my closets 😉
What will you let go of and make room for today?
